Excel Homes LLC , based in Camp Hill, PA, is the largest custom modular home manufacturer in the United States . Excel Homes has built more than 28,000 modular homes since its inception in 1984, with a footprint that spans from Maine to Georgia and as far west as Michigan.

Manufacturing and services

Excel Homes features hundreds of plans for single- and multi-family homes, with an emphasis on mid-range to upscale home buyers. Homes range in size from 800 square feet to more than 10,000 square feet. Excel Homes’ engineering team also creates modules based on a builder’s or architect’s custom designs and can revise plans to meet various zoning requirements.

The company maintains climate-controlled plants in Liverpool, PA, Avis, PA and Marlboro, NY. Excel Homes is an ENERGY STAR partner, building homes that meet or exceed the ENERGY STAR guidelines.

History

1984 – The company now known as Excel Homes begins manufacturing modular homes at the Liverpool, PA, manufacturing facility.

1997 – Ed Langley and Perry Bolton purchase the Liverpool facility and create Excel Homes, Inc., on October 23.

2004 – Excel Homes is recapitalized with major investment from Huron Capital Partners.

2007 – A newly installed corporate leadership team, led by former Johnson Controls vice president of global manufacturing, Steve Scharnhorst, introduces an aggressive five-year strategic plan designed to increase market share for Excel Homes despite the housing industry’s current downturn.

2008 – Manufacturing facilities are added in Marlboro, NY and Oxford, ME.
