House (also known as House M.D. ) is an American medical drama series that premiered on Fox on November 16, 2004. The show was created by David Shore and revolves around Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie), a maverick medical genius who heads a team of diagnosticians; Dr. Allison Cameron (Jennifer Morrison), Dr. Robert Chase (Jesse Spencer) and Dr. Eric Foreman (Omar Epps), at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital (PPTH) in New Jersey. They are presented with an unusual case each episode. House frequently clashes with his boss Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein), and his only friend, Dr. James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard).
Each season introduces a recurring guest star, who appears in a multi-episode story arc. The fourth season being the only exception, as it introduced seven new characters who were applying for the jobs of Cameron, Chase and Foreman, who left as House's team during the third season finale "Human Error". House eventually hired Dr. Chris Taub (Peter Jacobson), Dr. Lawrence Kutner (Kal Penn) and Dr. Remy "Thirteen" Hadley (Olivia Wilde) as his new team.
The show has gained high ratings and critical acclaim since its premiere. Six seasons have aired in the United States, the fourth of which was interrupted by the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike and therefore contained sixteen episodes instead of the regular 24. In January 2009, House was moved to a new time slot of Monday night at 8:00 pm ET, before 24 from its previous slot of Tuesday at 8:00 pm ET. Fox renewed the show for a sixth season, which premiered in the fall of 2009. The show gained its highest ranking with the episode Human Error which placed in 1st position for that week it was aired. It gained its highest viewers for the episode Frozen, for which there were just over 29 million viewers on the night it was aired.
The first five seasons have been released on DVD by Universal, in Regions 1, 2 and 4. The show is aired in 66 countries as of June 12, 2009, with 86 million viewers worldwide. As of March 8, 2010 a total of 126 episodes of House have aired.
In the following list, the term "Episode #" refers to the episode's number in the overall series; an episode's number within each season follows the overall episode number in parentheses. "American viewers in millions" refers to the number of Americans in millions who watched the episode live. However, for season four and future seasons, these numbers also include Americans who recorded the episode and watched it within seven days of broadcast, as digital video recorders have become an increasingly popular mode of television viewing.

The show started on November 16, 2004, and aired its most recent episode on February 8, 2010. House has enjoyed a high viewing rating from the first episode to the current one. It has achieved a maximum 19.4 million viewers and its highest overall rank is seventh during its third season. It also ranked third in the 18-49 age range during its second season.

The DVDs have been released in Regions 1, 2 and 4 as complete season boxsets. Apart from season 1, all seasons have been released in the original widescreen format and season 1 released in fullscreen format.
In North America season 1 was re-released in widescreen format on February 10, 2009. There has also been a season 1–2 boxset with 12 discs released on May 19, 2009 and season 3–4 boxset with 9 discs released on May 19, 2009. A season 1–4 boxset was released, but later discontinued. In the UK the region 2 release there is also a season 1–3 boxset released on November 19, 2007 and season 1–4 boxset release on October 27, 2008 but has since been discontinued. A season 1-5 boxset was released on October 5, 2009. In Australia the region 4 release also has a season 1–3 boxset was released on December 5, 2007, season 1–4 boxset was released on November 19, 2008 and season 1-5 boxset was released on September 10, 2009.
