Wimberley is a small town in Hays County, Texas, United States. Prior to its incorporation in May 2000, it was a census-designated place (CDP). The population was 3,797 at the 2000 census.
Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP had a total area of 16.1 square miles (41.8 km 2 ), all of it land.
Sites and Places of Interest
Wimberley was originally known for its pretty rivers and streams, although increasing drought conditions due to higher population density can adversely affect availability of these areas for recreation at any given time. Cypress Creek flows from its origin at Jacob's Well into the incorporated area of Wimberley from the northwest, turns south, and joins the Blanco River which flows through the Wimberley Valley from west to east. The river and creek are popular with tourists and the Wimberley Valley Watershed Association was formed in an effort to help protect the water quality and quantity for both residents and tourists.
The town is visited for its small, unique shops, artistic community, and large number of bed and breakfasts. It is a vacation destination from surrounding metropolitan areas. The two main industries in Wimberley are real estate and lodging provision. The commuting time to Austin or San Antonio is usually around an hour, or more.
The views, birding, and wildlife are draws to the area. Due to its location on the Edwards Plateau, Wimberley is in the Central Flyway for migrating birds and offers excellent birding opportunities for patient observers. The Monarch butterfly also migrates over Wimberley each spring and fall.
Events
The Pie Social
The Pie Social is held annually at the 150 year old Winters-Wimberley house. Members of the community of any age are eligible to enter. Anyone may walk around, sampling pies, and voting on their favorite. There is then a panel of judges who score the pies based on taste, presentation, and other factors.
Market Days
Held the first Saturday of every month at Lion's Field, Market Days is a very popular destination for tourists across the country. Market days gives amateur merchants a chance to begin selling their merchandise to a wide variety of people. A booth at market days may be rented for the year or for only one month. There are many different types of products to be purchased — from peanuts to exotic plants to handmade blades, and many antiques.
Every market days two young girls attend this city function. Carly Simmons and Haley Basurto both partake in organizing the booths and by helping out in the community associated with the Lions club, an organization for market days. Its a very entertaining event that takes place on every first Saturday of the month. We encourage visitors to come visit Wimberley market days.
