Partners Group (SIX: PGHN) is a global alternative asset management firm focusing on private equity, hedge fund, real estate, infrastructure and mezzanine capital investments with approximately $25 billion of capital under management. In addition to investing in new private equity partnerships, the firm invests through equity co-investments and secondary market purchases.
The firm, which was founded in 1996, is based in Baar-Zug, Switzerland with offices in London, New York, San Francisco, Guernsey, Luxembourg, Singapore, Beijing, Tokyo and Sydney. Partners Group is a joint stock company under Swiss law, listed on the Swiss Exchange since its 2006 initial public offering. The firm was founded by Alfred Gantner, Marcel Erni and Urs Wietlisbach.
Partners Group invests through three types of vehicles:
- Private equity fund of funds
- Separate accounts - customised investment programs for clients seeking to outsource all or a portion of their alternative investment activities
- Listed fund of funds vehicles - These vehicles include Pearl Holding and Princess Private Equity Holding.
Listed investment vehicles
Pearl Holding
Pearl Holding (Pearl) is a private equity investment company in Guernsey, established by Partners Group in 2000. Pearl makes commitments to new private equity funds, primarily those located in Europe.
Pearl's 2% convertible notes, which are publicly traded, are insured until maturity by European International Reinsurance Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Swiss Re.
Princess Private Equity Holding
Princess Private Equity Holding (Princess)was set up as a joint venture between Partners Group and Swiss Re, the second largest re-insurance company in the world. Princess is an investment holding company domiciled in Guernsey that invests in private equity and private debt investments.
In 1999 Princess raised $700m through the issue of zero coupon convertible bonds due 2010. Since its inception. The nominal capital is protected at maturity by an insurance policy, which is reinsured by Swiss Re. This gives Swiss Re the right to amend the investment guidelines and to limit or exclude new commitments.
In December 2006, the shares of Princess Private Equity Holding, were listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
