Center Hospital Medical Midway

The University of Chicago Medical Center forms a major center for medical care and research in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Established in 1927 as the University of Chicago Hospitals , the hospitals are affiliated with and run by the University of Chicago, and serve as teaching hospitals for students of the institution's Pritzker School of Medicine.

In 2007, the University of Chicago Medical Center was again ranked among the best in the country by U.S. News & World Report . The 2007 rankings by U.S. News and World Report included the following medical specialties: digestive disorders (6), cancer (7), endocrinology (8), neurology and neurosurgery (14), kidney disease (22), heart (23), geriatrics (24), ear, nose, and throat (25), gynecology (39), and respiratory disorders (50). It is the only hospital in Illinois ever to be included on the magazine's "Honor Roll" of the 18 best hospitals in the United States, and has made this coveted list 10 times.

The hospital is also where most of the exterior shots of the Cook County Hospital in ER are shot.

The University of Chicago Medical Center consists of:

• Bernard A. Mitchell Hospital, the primary adult inpatient care facility
• University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital
• Chicago Lying-in Hospital, a maternity and women's hospital
• Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine, an outpatient care facility
• Regional Doctors Offices located throughout the Chicago area
• Pritzker School of Medicine
