Africa Base Mtv

MTV Base is a digital television channel which began in the United Kingdom on July 1, 1999. Since then localised digital broadcast versions for the African Continent and France have launched. The pan-European channel is also available in digital television in the United Kingdom and through digital providers in the Republic of Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands. The channel in Africa plays all genres of music appealing to the primary youth and young adult audience including hip hop, R&B, rock, alternative, afrobeat, kwaito, reggae and many other genres from the African continent, USA and other urban hotspots. MTV Base Africa also hosts a local awards show and local events.

MTV Base (Europe)

The pan-European channel launched on 1 July 1999. The idea for the channel was originated by MTV Europe producer/director Tulip Tuitt with the name 'MTV Bass'. She also named the flagship show 'The Lick'. At the time, the MTV Digital channels were headed by Peter Good. He employed former Kiss 100 FM Head Of Music Lindsay Wesker to create MTV Base. Base's long-form shows are a mixture of locally-generated content such as 'The Lick' and MTV staples such as 'Pimp My Ride' and Nick Cannon's 'Wild'n Out', but Wesker is still employed as Music Editor and programs the channel's music video output. The channel is also available in Republic of Ireland, Poland (cabeltv) and some other countries (Astra 1M -satellite, CanalDigitaal Netherlands (SECA2), CanalsatFrance (Viaccess 2.4), France Telecom (Viaccess 2.4), Noos Numerique (Viaccess 2.4), UPC direct (Cryptoworks) and has recently been removed from Easy.Tv (Cryptoworks). From March 7 on, MTV Base won't be aired outside the UK anymore. It was replaced by MTV Dance.

MTV Base (Africa)

MTV Base Africa is a 24 hour music and general entertainment channel which is available to around 50 million viewers across 48 countries in sub-Saharan Africa via satellite, and via free-to-air networks in Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda. The channel launched 22 February 2005 . MTV Base (Africa) is headed up by Alex Okosi (Vice President & GM), Jandre Louw (Head of Marketing, Events, Digital Media & Radio), Dudu Qubu (Head of Programming & Production), Paul Mayanja (Head of Commercial). This team also manages all other MTV Networks Europe properties across Africa including MTV Europe, MTV France, MTV Portugal, VH1 Europe, Nickelodeon Africa, Nickelodeon France and Nickelodeon Portugal. MTV Base Africa are thought to be the first television company to have adopted the use of VBTs in their marketing under the vision of Jandre Louw, because of this MTV Base Africa have been hailed a TV company with a reputation for vision and resourceful technology. Discussions are under way to launch other Viacom owned operations in Africa such as Comedy Central.

MTV Base (France)

The French version of the channel was launched on December 21, 2007. MTV BASE France is meant to reflect all the trends of urban culture from both French and International music scenes.
