MSHS68 Reunion 2008 – The Mindanao WIKI-VIAJE VERSION 002, March 6 2008 Wednesday

Feb 25 Monday, DAY ONE

Davao International Airport

•Sally, Alice, Sylvia, Mel, Vaty, Karmi, Fe, Caloy, Bodeng, Abet arrived on a PAL flight from Manila at 12noon.

•They were met by Mon, Dodoy and Desing, drivers of the HiAce and the Revo.

•All the luggages were piled up in the Revo. The Hi-Ace carried the troupe for five days of fun and discovery through 915 km (up to Butuan airport) of travel on very good Mindanao roads.

*HIGHLIGHTS: -Alice pulled off a pleasant surprise by suddenly appearing at the waiting line at boarding time. She has not made any prior confirmation that she's joining the trip. -From the moment of plane touch down at the Davao airport, heightened excitement and anticipation were written all over the faces of the arriving group, as can be seen from the first few shots of the foto-ops in Davao airport. -The girls opted to forget the "discrimination" experienced at Manila Domestic airport, of having made to wait for their flight at the lobby of the airport, while the boys cool it at the Mabuhay Lounge, courtesy of Tong. (Napatawad na sila) -Soon as the group rolled off from the Davao airport, MonMac shifted to his "tourist guide" mode, pointing at interesting places and notable spots along the way to lunch.

AhFat Restaurant

•The group went straight to the AhFat Restaurant at the Victoria Complex for lunch.

•Rey has been waiting for an hour at the restaurant.

•Mila, Mon’s wife joined the lunch.

•Lunch on hot and sour soup, steamed pompano, stemed garlic crabs, beef broccolli, spicy pork spare ribs.

*HIGHLIGHTS: -Even if Rey has been waiting for an hour at the restaurant, there was not even a hint of boredom, "inis", or impatience on his face when the group arrived.Of course, everybody knows why (wink)... -The group got its first taste of what was to come in the next 5 days....F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C F-O-O-D ! -Sharp to perceive, swift to respond, and precise to adapt, the group shifted to high gear : "SEE-FOOD" diet ! -Mel graciously took the task of breaking the crab claws and picking out the crabmeat for the others (na ayaw magkamay) to enjoy.

Mon’s House

•The group moved to Mon’s house for coffee, pummelos, mango, Jaltan’s sapin-sapin, fruit salad and a good fill of alaskahan.

•Mila, Mon’s wife wondered if there were married pairs in the group, noting the way the jousts went. When Mon informed her that there were none but the intimacy is such, she shifted the comment to “Ang lalakas lang kumain”.

*HIGHLIGHTS: - The group ate desserts complete with brewed coffee like there is no tomorrow.Kahit inaantok na sa kabusugan, kain pa rin ng kain habang inaantok ! - MonMac's lovely wife Mila, seemingly shocked but amused at the exchange of banters and kantiyawan of the group declared that MonMac is the "pinaka-demure" sa magkakaklase.

Marco Polo Hotel / Aldevinco Shopping Center

•Mel and Vaty visited a family friend at the Davao Doctors’ Hospital

•Everyone else posed for pictures in front of the Pacita Abad mural at the Marco Polo hotel lobby.

•The Feb 25 rally in front of the Ateneo de Davao University had Journalist Caloy taking some shots.

•While these were going on, people were shopping for souvenirs, t shirts, ethnic craft, etc at the Aldevinco Shopping center.

*HIGHLIGHTS: -Pose to the max is the objective of most in this stopover. At kailangan yong nakikita ang pangalan ng Marco Polo Hotel ha ? -The group loitered in the lobby, posed for foto shots in the different areas , slouched and waited for the others in the rich sofas,as if they were guests (naka-check in)of the hotel. But of course, they are just "usiseros".

Las Terrazas Clubhouses

•Had a good view of Davao Gulf, Samal Island, the city landscape with one or two tall buildings from the Las Terrazas clubhouse.

•Toto de Jesus, manager of the Alcantara Group Real Estate Group gave a good presentation on the amenities of the subdivision, the real estate values in Davao and the joy of living in Davao.

Makro Supermarket

•The group picked up supplies for the trip from Makro Supermarket using Alice’s membership card.

•Bulk of the purchases were mineral water, sitserya, Coks for the trip, and wines to prop up the singing.

•Bodeng paid for his supplies.

Dumoy Garden Resort

•The group used three cottages. The hot shower was busted. The beds were ok. Even if the guys were tired, the singing kept the beds slightly used all night.

•Dinner consisted of shrimp halabos in sweetish sauce, grilled whole tilapia, chopsuey, pancit bijon, fried chicken and inihaw an tuna panga plus leftovers from the AhFat lunch.

•Mon and Rey finally solved the puzzle of the MagicSync and the TV and the karaoke jousts started immediately.

•The wines were opened, kinilaw was served to spice it all up. Durian was available for those who cared

•Art Jayme and Dennis Huesca, who were running the adjacent fishpond joined the dinner.

•Mon left Dumoy Garden Resort that night to attend the wake of a friend and slept in his house

*HIGHLIGHTS: -It was the first karaoke session of the trip. Started right after dinner.Notable rendition of the song "Refrain"(of Jose Mari Chan) by Rey and Fe - feel na feel talaga! -The wine must have kicked-in by midnight, so that some chose to hit the bed, but the others just went on with the singing. -Alice, by this time has started singing sexy, seductive songs complete with finger-snapping and naughty hip-swaying dance steps.(check her out in the first video clip) -Top highlight : Caloy and Alice danced the Bump, but Caloy complained that Alice's HIP keeps on bumping his KNEE !

Feb 26 Tuesday, DAY TWO

Dumoy Garden Resort

•Mel and Abet took the early morning walk in the beach. They were joined later by Bodeng, Sylvia and Rey in looking at the tilapia jump in the nearby fishpond. Sally and Alice haggled with some hawkers for souvenirs.

•Breakfast consisted of all the leftovers from the night before, rice, eggs and brewed coffee that Mon supplied for the entire trip.

•The group left for the Philippine Eagle Center by 9am on the Hi-Ace.

•The Revo went back to town to buy pummelo crates and Durian candies that would travel all the way through Butuan to Manila. Rey managed the purchasing of supplies.

Philippine Eagle Center

•The group went to the Philippine Eagle Center in Malagos, some 30km from Davao City Hall and spent the whole morning there. The pictures tell a better story.

•The sequence of the MSHS tour of the place started with the office, the crocodile pit, the old eagle cages, the Latayan marker, the pair of owls, the Eagle House, Pag-Asa’s cage, huge eagle cages provided by sponsors, the eagle nursery, where we had pictures of the two-year-old palyful eagle and his/her caretaker, the deer, the kites, more eagles, the monkey place, the big bamboo where we had more pictures, the bridge going out with the musang in the end. All along the grounds were landscaped in wild abandon with greens ground covers, flowering hedges, palms, ferns and trees.

•We paid P250 for a cement tile marker that will be part of the walk for three years. The “lapida” contains the words “MSHS68 26 February 2008”. Alice facilitated this activity. Mon is ordered to take a picture of the installed tile sometime
