Good Shepherd Lutheran College is a Prep to Year 12 campus that serves the families of the Noosa district. It is located in Noosaville.
Good Shepherd Lutheran College is largely regarded as one of the leading private schools in in the Noosa district. It has recently undergone the construction of many new buildings, including the gym and recreation centre, a pool, a theatrette, a new "tuckshop", as well as new landscaping throughout the campus. Plans for further buildings are currently being drawn up and will be put into action shortly.
History and Development
The College is situated on 4.6 hectares (11 acres) which was once the site of the Noosa Drive-In. In addition, the College has a licence to use oval space adjacent to its property. The College commenced its operations in 1985, using a temporary demountable building which was constructed through the generous support of local members of the Lutheran Congregation and the Lutheran Church of Australia.
The Primary School was opened on the 28th January, 1986 with an enrolment of 66 students. In 1992, the Primary School was handed over by the Parish to the Lutheran Church of Australia, Queensland District which opened Good Shepherd Lutheran College, offering classes from Year 1 to Year 8. In 1996 classes were offered from Prep to Year 12 for the first time.
An agreement was reached between the College and the Noosa Council in 2002 which provided for the acquisition of 1.1ha of additional land, on which a gymnasium, extra classrooms and a swimming pool are now located.
House System
Four houses operate across the college as follows:
The Pastoral Care system is based on these Houses. Other House based activities throughout the year include swimming carnival, cross country run, athletics and other competitions, all which are designed to foster House spirit.
A coloured House shirt is worn with the sport uniform on these occasions.
Primary School
The Primary section of the College includes the levels Prep to Year 7. The college caters for the equivalent of two classes of each year level for Prep to Year 3, with five classes offered across Years 4 and 5, and five classes across Years 6 and 7.
A Christian Education program exists at the College, involving regular times for school chapels, class devotions and Christian Studies lessons. Students and parents should understand that all students are expected to participate as they are important aspects of College life. The College asserts its right to teach with sensitivity the content of the Christian faith as confessed by the Lutheran Church of Australia. It also recognises the right and responsibility of parents to teach their children in their homes as their conscience dictates.
For various activities, the Primary section separates into two subgroups: P-5 and 6-9 (with Years 6 and 7 joining the Middle Years). Specialist staff of the College also work in Primary classes throughout the year. These staff include; teachers of Physical Education, Music, LOTE (Japanese P-7 and German 5-7), Technology and Art. The College also has a Learning Enrichment team of teachers and teacher aides who assist students with their learning.
Secondary School
The Secondary Section of the College includes Years 8 through to 12. At most times the college caters for three classes at each year level from 8 to 10 and four classes in both Years 11 and 12. The College aims to keep class sizes at 30 in junior and 25 in senior secondary.
Elective and specialist subjects usually enjoy smaller numbers due to requirements as far as the correct use of practical facilities and the voluntary nature of the subject selection process.
The subject offerings across the College cover a broad range of disciplines, catering for a multitude of student interests and abilities.
Secondary programmes are based on the key learning areas up to Year 10. The Year 11 and 12 options are linked to Queensland Studies Authority requirements for Senior Schooling. Good Shepherd offers the following courses in Year 11 and 12:
