Wyndham Resort Time Share

Wyndham Vacation Resorts (WVR) is part of Wyndham Vacation Ownership (WVO), the world’s largest timeshare company. Previously known as Fairfield Communities, Inc, the company developed, financed, and managed timeshare properties known as Fairfield Resorts. Wyndham Vacation Resorts currently have about 515,000 owner families around the world.

Wyndham Vacation Ownership (WVO) is a member of Wyndham Worldwide (NYSE: WYN), the world’s largest vacation ownership business, as measured by the number of vacation ownership resorts, individual vacation ownership units and owners of vacation ownership interests.

Timeline

• 1966 C. Randolph Warner purchases 4,000 acres on Greers Ferry Lake, AK and named the development Fairfield Bay.
• 1969 Fairfield was incorporated. Fairfield Glade opened between Knoxville and Nashville, TN.
• 1977 Fairfield Harbour, near New Bern, NC, Fairfield Mountains, near Lake Lure, NC, and Fairfield Plantation, in Villa Rica, GA, opened.
• 1978 Fairfield's time-share concept, FairShare, was introduced at Fairfield Mountains in Lake Lure, NC.
• 1979 FairShare , the company's first time-share plan on condominium accommodations sold in weekly intervals was established.
• 1981 Fairfield Sapphire Valley, in NC, and Fairfield Flagstaff, in AZ, opened. The company had 7 properties.
• 1982 FAX, an interval exchange system for FairShare owners, was created.
• 1983 Donovan appointed as president of Fairfield.
• 1983 Fairfield Pagosa, in CO, and Fairfield Ocean Ridge, in SC, opened.
• 1984 Fairfield set a record of $16 million in profits. Warner retired.
• 1985 Fairfield corporate expenses rose to $85 million, or 25 percent of sales. Donovan was forced to leave and Warner, who shelved his plans for retirement, returned to rescue a floundering company.
• 1986 With 26 properties, the company set a new record by losing $17.6 million.
• 1987 Fairfield liquidated home building operations of ten properties in Florida, Arizona, and Colorado.
• 1988 Fairfield sold five of the company's six remaining Florida housing projects.
• 1989 The company posted a $24.8 million loss.
• 1990 Fairfield filed for bankruptcy protection with a 226-page list of more than 2,000 creditors. It was the largest filing in the state's history.
• 1991 FairShare Plus , a points-based exchange system, was created.
• 1992 The company emerges from Chapter 11 with 14 timeshare properties.
• 1997 Fairfield acquired Vacation Break U.S.A. and owned 20 timeshare properties.
• 1999 Fairfield moved its headquarters from Little Rock to Orlando, became the third largest time-share organization in the country, trailing only Marriott Vacation Club and Sunterra Corp.
• 2000 Miami-based Carnival Corporation announced it was going to purchase Fairfield for $775 million. Within a month, the proposed merger was abandoned. Later, the Cendant Corp. agreed to purchase Fairfield Communities Inc. for $728.5 million in cash and stock. Fairfield was operating 33 resorts in 12 states and Bahamas.
• 2001 Fairfield becomes a subsidiary of Cendant Corporation. Acquired Dolphin's Cove.
• 2005 Fairfield Resorts became the first in its field to reach the 500,000 owners mark.

Cendant acquires the Wyndham brand and announces spin-off plans. Fairfield purchased the Prava Hotel, a seven-story, 56-room hotel to re-open as Fairfield San Diego at Harbour Lights.

• 2006 OHANA Reef Towers hotel was purchased to be named Fairfield Hawaii at Waikiki Beach Walk. Wyndham Worldwide Corporation began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol WYN. Fairfield Resorts was rebranded as Wyndham Vacation Resorts. Five Wyndham hotels (Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort and Spa in St. Thomas, Wyndham Orange County in Costa Mesa, CA, Wyndham Midtown and Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center in Atlanta, and Bourbon Orleans in New Orleans) were affiliated with FairShare Plus.
• 2007 Five Kauai-based resorts acquired from PAHIO Resorts affiliated with FairShare Plus. Wyndham Rio Mar in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, was affiliated FairShare Plus. WVO acquired vacation ownership units at the Emerald Beach Resort in Panama City Beach, FL from Emerald Beach Resort, LLC. Wyndham Vacation Resorts at Glacier Canyon in Wisconsin Dells, WI, and Wyndham La Cascada in San Antonio, TX, opened.
• 2008 Wyndham Palm Springs was affiliated FairShare Plus. Wyndham La Belle Maison in New Orleans, LA, and Wyndham Vacation Resorts Shawnee Village in PA, opened.
